This Beech bowl comes from the South of Co. Dublin, I don't know exactly where at this point. It was apparently cut because it was overhanging a property and the size and age of the tree were a huge concern to a property below. I brought the wood from Bray Co.Wicklow and transported the slabs back home to work on.

This bowl has some very interesting grain patterns both inside and out and it has a few colour change streaks as well just for good measure. The colour of this particular Beech tree is different to any other Beech I've seen previously. The wood is a darker red/brown that I have not seen before. Maybe the high mineral content soil that it grew on had something to do with it, who knows. The finished bowl will make an amazing centrepiece on any table.

Finish sanded to a highly smooth touch.  For food convenience, it is coated with Hampshire Sheen Food-Safe Danish Oil and burnished to a low lustre shine using very fine wool. See After Care page for details.

Because of the durable finish, this bowl can also just be used for display long term. Please note that washing the bowl will change or diminish the shine on the surface.
