A Little More About My Serving Boards
My serving boards are made for presentation rather than heavy chopping. Cutting boards are usually made from end grain, which is kinder to knife blades and hides marks better. For serious everyday chopping, a cheap, replaceable bamboo board will often do the job. When it comes to presenting food at the table, that is where a real Irish hardwood serving board shines.
These are pieces made for style, sharing, and enjoyment. They can sit at the centre of a table, carry cheese, bread, snacks, desserts, or be used as part of a food display when friends or family visit.
Ash, one of the woods I use, is now under serious threat, so pieces made from real Irish Ash have become even more meaningful. When suitable wood is available, I try to make the most of it and create pieces that show its grain, colour, and character properly.
