Woodturning Follow-On Skills Clinic (2 Hours)
 
⚠️ A Note About This Session
This guided project session is a new addition to my tuition programme and is currently being refined. Students should have attended a lesson previously and have some experience using their own lathe so they can confidently follow instruction.
 
The aim is to work through a small turning project step by step while improving tool control, shaping, sanding and finishing techniques. The exact project used in the session may change as I continue developing the class.
 
Once the project format is finalised, this session will focus on producing a small finished piece while improving the turning skills needed to repeat similar projects in your own workshop.

Many woodturners understand the basics of turning but struggle when it comes to completing a small project from start to finish.
 
Small details, shaping accuracy, and tool control become much more noticeable when working on compact pieces.
 
A guided project can be one of the best ways to improve these skills while producing a finished item at the same time.
 
This session focuses on working through a simple spindle project step by step while improving tool control, shaping, and finishing techniques.

In this relaxed one-to-one session we’ll work through a small guided turning project designed to build confidence and improve control at the lathe.
 
The project currently used in this session is a honey dipper, although similar small spindle projects may occasionally be used depending on available wood and skill level.
 
The aim is not just to produce the item itself, but to develop the techniques required to shape small details cleanly and efficiently.
 
Throughout the session we’ll look at tool presentation, shaping methods, and finishing techniques so you can apply the same skills to future projects in your own workshop.
 
This class assumes some basic woodturning experience. While beginners are welcome, participants should already feel comfortable using basic tools on the lathe. If someone is still struggling with the fundamentals, I may need to step in to complete parts of the project, which isn’t the aim of this session.
