Killarney Yew Pen Blank Pack
A small batch of Yew pen blanks, cut from wood sourced in Killarney, Co. Kerry.
 
Yew is a beautiful wood for small turned projects, with warm colour, attractive grain and natural character that can really come to life once rounded, sanded and finished. These blanks are suitable for single-body pens, split-body pens, keyrings, small handles and other compact woodturning projects.
 
Each pack contains 4 pieces, bandsaw cut and measuring approximately 150mm or longer x 25mm x 25mm. Standard pen blanks are usually around 20mm x 20mm, but I have cut these slightly oversized to give extra room for trimming, drilling and adjustment.
 
This latest batch of Yew has not been fully cleaned up, so some pieces may look rougher on one side. Yew can also be a little more awkward to process than some other wood types. This should not affect normal use, as the rough outer surface will be turned away when the blank is rounded.
 
As these blanks are cut individually from real Irish wood, the cuts may not be perfectly straight or identical. Minor saw marks, rough patches or surface marks may be visible, but these should turn away during normal preparation.

For best results, take light cuts with sharp tools, sand smoothly through the grits, and apply your chosen finish to bring out the rich colour and grain of the Yew.
