This medium-deep sized food-safe bowl comes from Tralee Co. Kerry. The tree it came from was taken down as part of a new development and I managed to stop it from being turned into firewood.  Ash is my favourite wood to work with and this tree turned out to be very special indeed. I used to live in Oakpark where this tree came from so it adds a touch of nostalgia for me too.

As I continue on my journey as a Woodturner, my techniques change and I begin to experiment with new bowl shapes, features and finishes. The rough turned shape of the wood when it was wet ultimately dictates the final finish shape of the bowl but some small aspects can be changed.  This bowl features a rising external to internal rim which I think works quite well on this bowl.  As well as heartwood on two ends this bowl also features some colouring from where the bowl edge was close to the bark of the tree; which I have featured in the photos.

Finish sanded to a highly smooth touch.  For food convenience, it is coated with a new Hard Wax Oil After Care details will be sent with each bowl.

Because of the durable finish, this bowl can also just be used for display long term. Please note that washing the bowl may change or diminish the shine on the surface.
