This private two-person session is designed for those who already have some turning experience or have completed a previous tuition class with me. Bowl turning requires good tool control and an understanding of spindle basics, so this session builds on what you already know.
 
You’ll work side by side in my professional workshop using high-quality lathes, gouges, and safety gear. Each student will work on their own bowl under direct supervision, alternating between demonstrations and hands-on time.
 
⚠️ Important Note:
To get the most from this class, both participants should have either:
• completed a regular woodturning tuition session with me, or
• some prior experience turning on their own.
 
Bowl turning takes time to do safely and properly. I’ll guide you through each stage, but five hours goes quickly—we’ll go as far as possible within your skill level, and you’ll hopefully leave with the knowledge and confidence to finish future bowls independently.

• Sharpening bowl gouges and scrapers
• Hollowing, shaping, and controlling tear-out
• Sanding, surface preparation, and finishing

🕐 Finishing Your Bowl
As my bowl class focuses on the process of turning a bowl from a blank—not necessarily completing one on the day—some students may not finish their piece within the 5-hour session.
We can discuss adding a little extra time for a small fee on the day if your bowl is far enough along, or you can book a short follow-up session to finish it and apply a protective coating.
Fees are simply based on what’s left to do and your ability level, so you’ll have a fair idea of the cost from the class you’ve just attended.
