This 1/2 inch M42GL7 Steel Stay Sharp Spindle Gouge is an exceptional tool for detailed spindle work. 
 
The GL7 is part of the Glenn Lucas Signature Tool range and it is modified from the standard Hamlet model to Glenn's specifications.  I started to use the M2 gouges every day in my own work and they are extremely versatile on sidegrain and also for tidying endgrain.  Of all the gouges I have used, the M42 tool is one of my favourites. I tend to prefer the M42 version as the steel stays sharper than the regular M2 version.  Used correctly, this tool can hollow endgrain when making egg cups, boxes and more.  The M42 is well worth the extra money in my opinion.
