This is an extremely versatile tool and I have one on every lathe I own. I have other types of Roughing Gouges in my collection but this is the one I keep returning to. It's size means more control on smaller pieces but it is also robust enough for much larger work too. This tool is a must have for spindle turning.
 
This Spindle Roughing Gouge is used to remove corners with a piece between centres.
Never to be used for roughing bowls or platters.
Made from M2 Steel
Handle - Beech
Width - 19mm (3/4)".
Handle Length - 10" Overall length of steel and handle = 16+ inches
 
 
Used only for the rough shaping of a spindle and shaping of broad curves. A fine finish can also be achieved with this tool.
N.B. Never to be used on a bowl or platter as it would be highly dangerous!
 
Please note that this tool has a factory edge and needs to be sharpened correctly before being used.
