Hamlet 3/8" Masterflute Deep Bowl Gouge Standard Grind
 
Hamlet Craft tools produce excellent tools for woodturners and this Masterflute long grind is no exception. This tool is a bottom Bowl Gouge for use inside the Bowl only. The standard grind when turned slightly eliminates the chance of catching the tool edge when removing waste on the inside of bowls.
 
The 55 degree grind on this tool makes it ideal for deep cuts at the inside bottom of Bowls. The standard upright edges can be ground back slightly to make the tool more maneuverable inside the Bowl. This gouge is best suited for very fine finishing cuts towards the bottom of the bowl.
 
Please note that this tool has a factory edge and needs to be sharpened correctly to your specification before being used.
 
To improve the tool you can cut a secondary bevel to make the it more maneuverable inside the Bowl.

The Masterflute Bowl Gouge range is slightly more expensive than standard bowl gouges due to the Parabolic Flute design and the longer tool handle as standard giving you more control over sweeping curves as well as easier to sharpen and maintain. Well worth the extra few Euro.

Woodturner's Tip.
Buying Bowl Gouges can be confusing as the bar and flute measurements are sometimes listed together or individually. For this tool, the bar is 1/2'' in diameter and the inside cut flute width is 3/8''.  This tool is ideal for fine finishing cuts inside towards the bottom of Bowls.  The heavier HCT151 5/8'' Bowl Gouge is a better option for heavier roughing cuts and initial shaping of the bottom of the bowl.
 
The Masterflute range are slightly more expensive than regular bowl gouges but their performance and ease of sharpening make them a better Woodturner's choice!
